February has been a very busy month for Pre-K 3. Number Bear is teaching us about the number 6. We've learned about the letter I, J, and soon K. We've also started to use scissors! It's hard, and our hands get tired, but we are having a lot of fun practicing our scissor skills. We learned a lot about loving one another, our friends, and our family for what makes Valentine's Day so special. However, Multicultural Day was very fun for us, and we'd like to thank Mr. Torres, Mrs. Vazquez, and Ms. Mejia for helping us in the classroom. We also would like to thank Mrs. Meneses, Mrs. Castrejon, the Rodriguez family for donating Japanese items. Finally, we'd like to thank the Lowry family, Mrs. Vazquez, and Mrs. Cruz for the food donations.

The new year brought new experiences for Pre-K 4. A few literacy activities that we enjoyed were reading books about Winter, learning a Groundhog's Day poem and making groundhog puppets. We discovered that there will be 6 more weeks of Winter thanks to Phil seeing his shadow. We also began working with simple sight words that are read most often in books, newspapers, magazines, etc. For math and science we celebrated the 100th day of school by making crowns and counting 100 snack items, focusing on numbers 11 to 15, and experimenting by using our 5 senses. We celebrated Catholic Schools Week by thanking our families for our Catholic education, doing school service projects and celebrating Multicultural Day. It was an exciting event for our class. We traveled from country to country learning interesting information along the way. With a cheery “Buongiorno" we welcomed visitors and served up some tasty pizza rolls. A special thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Solis for helping us bake and serve the pizza rolls.

Thank you for making Multicultural Day such a great success! The Kindergarteners did a great job portraying Spain and they received numerous compliments. We have been busy reading short sentences and continue to add to our list of sight words. In Math, we are still learning to tell time and will move on to learning basic currency value. In Religion, we will begin learning about the Lenten season by celebrating Fat Tuesday!

Multicultural Day was a lot of fun for our class. We had good food and learned about other countries. We are busy counting money and getting ready for the achievement test in March. The students have really improved in reading. Each child brings a reader home to practice. This has been a big help with expression. We are looking forward to Lent and all the ways we can get ready for Easter.
