Religious Education

To aid students in developing an active faith-life, Queen of Peace offers daily religious instruction to its students at each grade level.  Religious instruction provides knowledge of the Catholic faith including lessons on the Bible, the Sacraments, the Commandments, Catholic Church history, and prayer.  Additionally, the students attend weekly school Masses, and morning and lunchtime prayers are said during the school day.

Queen of Peace students will attend Mass on Wednesday, February 22nd to observe Ash Wednesday. Priests will mark our foreheads with ash to publicly demonstrate repentance. In biblical times, ashes represented mourning and sadness for sins. Ash Wednesday kicks off the season of Lent, marking the start of a 46-day-long season of prayer, fasting, reflection, alms-giving, confession and the willful sacrifice of personal vices. Lent culminates with the holiest holiday, Easter Sunday, on April 8th. Traditionally, Lent is 40 days, but the six Sundays in the 46-day period are not counted, representing Jesus' victory over sin and death. The observance of Lent represents the 40 days Jesus spent fasting and praying in the desert before he began his ministry—as well as the 40 hours he is thought to have spent in the tomb after his Crucifixion.

Let us take time this Season to ready our hearts for Christ.

6th Grade is full of wisdom this month. We have covered proverbs, kings, and even written some of their own proverbs as well. We are truly learning what it means to be wise and not just "smart."

7th Grade Religion is also seeking the wisdom of Jesus in his parables. They have read why Jesus taught the way He did and how each parable holds a special meaning and lesson for them in their lives. They have also created their own parables. Tour our hallway to see them!

8th Grade Religion is learning about the wisdom of Jesus as well. They have been analyzing their relationships with Jesus, and learning to discern the meaning of His holy scriptures and how it applies to their lives. They have written several essays expressing their newfound knowledge, and continue use their bibles to find scriptures related to these topics.
